What the domestic claim covers

We are a promotional products distributor — we source direct from the manufacturers and decorate to order, so the “Made in USA” designation on these 22 items comes from the manufacturer’s own declaration, not from us. Ask what it covers before you build a campaign around it. The FTC standard for an unqualified claim requires that all or virtually all of the product be made domestically, but many suppliers use qualified language such as “assembled in the USA” or “domestically sewn from imported fabric.” Both are legitimate; they are just different claims. Why buyers choose domestic

Two reasons, usually. Public-sector and union-affiliated programs sometimes carry a procurement requirement that only a domestic product satisfies. And organizations whose brand story is built on American manufacturing need the gift to match the message — a heritage-brand company handing out imported swag undercuts its own positioning. Domestic production also shortens the supply chain, which matters when a program has a hard event date and no room for an ocean freight delay.

What to expect on price and lead time
